Carb thoughts on a 960

Was looking at new carbs on the net. the carbs for a 134 is a whole lot cheaper than the 172. don't know what the number is on my 960 other than its a shebler. I have seen a tsx-80 listed for these fords on the net for both engines 172 and 134. I measured the bolts and they look to be 2.42 center to center. Is there a problem with buying one for a 134 instead of the 172. any thoughts on this. thanks norm

SEE this archived post by AWHTX. I will add that some aftermarket replacement manifolds have mounting hole that will accommodate more than one carb hole spacing.

Below is a link to a previous discussion on the issue you might find interesting. Your original MS carb should be a TSX-706. Personally I would get one specifically for the 172 even if it's a Zenith.
Carbs 172 vs 134

If you plan to use all the ponies under the hood, I'd get the one for the 172ci engine.

Can you make a carb for the 134ci engine run a 172 ci engine? ( assuming you have compatible manifold/mounts ).

Yes!

I have a carb for a 134 on my 950 that I use as a lawnmower. I'm never using all the ponies the engine COULD make, and I had it on hand when it's carb died. Had it on for years now. Way more fuel efficient too. ;)

You can also use the carb for the XX1 if you want a little more, and the XX1 manifold for even more!

I bought the tractor with a TSX 765 on it. It should have a TSX 706. It runs great as is. I don't see a need to swap. I had the carb rebuilt and was the best $65 I spent on that tractor!
