I have a ford 3000 diesel European model. 1st question is it has a 2 stage clutch that only is working the transmission, not the pto. Can I change it to a single stage clutch? Second is my hydrolics lift strong, but only up and down. It will not hold at different heights. so i am having to use a chain for my mower to hold the correct height. I changed the fluid and it is at the correct level. What part do i need to rebuild, or adjust?

As to your clutch - no you cannot put single clutch components in that tractor. They won't fit.

As to your lift, are you sure it's in position and and not draft mode.

Adding to Larry's note about position vs. draft - there is a lever under the seat that must be up in order to hold a certain position - if it is down the lift will move based on the weight on the lift arms.

So the question is, is it the PTO clutch disc worn completely out or the sliding sleeve that connects the shafts together (I guess live has one of those too for engagement....something has to move when you move the PTO selector lever) when you engage the PTO....or is the lever moving the full distance which would make the connection? Was this an all of a sudden problem? You make a new purchase and it came this way? Where is the clutch pedal when the tractor starts moving as compared to having your foot off it? My '65 3000 has live and the PTO pedal engagement height is right at half the distance of the transmission engagement.

The twin disc clutch assy is necessary for Live PTO as you are driving two different shafts. The setup has to be just right (so I read) to have it to work as designed. I understand the new, out of the box clutch assys don't necessarily come properly adjusted.

I have a '63 2000 I bought maybe 25 years ago and initially the PTO lever would disengage shortly after selecting and placing a load on it. I used a wire to hold it engaged for quite some time. Then one day it started working correctly. Don't know why.
