NH 8260 Error Code Help

I used my 1998 New Holland 8260 a couple days ago and had no problems, so I get in it today to do some mowing and everytime I went to put it in high range or overdrive (23x12 tranny) I got an error code of "E65". My list of codes says this is for a "High Solenoid Open Circuit", i'm just wondering whats going on and how to fix it, as long as I don't hit the rabbit button on the shifter it will work in low range or underdrive, but if I try for high range the tractor stops, the alarm goes off, and E65 starts blinking on the dash. Its kinda weird that everything was fine Saturday and now its doing this!!

I don't think that's weird. Breaks in wires happen all the time. Maybe it was all but there when you used it the day before and just needed to finish breaking.

You either have a broken wire, bad solenoid, dirty or loose connection or some other electrical component bad in your high clutch circuit. You'll need to have someone with the diagnostic information chase it for you unless you can get your hands on the service info for that fault.

One thing you might try, is swapping the solenoids on high and low. See if the fault follows the solenoid or if it stays in the high clutch circuitry. If it follows the solenoid, go get a new one, install it in place of the bad one and your problem will be cured.

Sorry, but my expertise (if I have any) lies with the 70 series Genesis tractor. I don't know any specifics about your 60 series tractor. Therefore, I can't tell you where any of these components are located.

IIRC the solenoids are external on that tractor. That means of course that they are exposed to weather, but they are also much easier to get at then the earlier ones which were all inside. I would just crawl in there between the wheel and the transmission and start methodically pulling the wires off solenoids and cleaning them. Most likely you will find a compromised connection cover.

We had a customer loose 3pt control on his 8260. Went through diagnosis and found no problem. Then tech happened to see that the connector had one wire where the lock tab had broken and allowed the pins to touch, but not slide together. When hitting bumps just right they would loose contact and the brain would do it's thing and shut off the 3pt.
