Alternator belt getting chewed up

I have an issue with my belts getting chewed up and burnt off by something. I know where it is but don?t know what it is or how to adjust it.

It just started a couple of days ago when I was brush hogging.

Can someone tell me what this lever is listed in the picture and what I could do to adjust it from rubbing my alternator belt clean through?

I think you need a wider belt. It's running too deep in the grooves. Looks like it needs a 5/8 or 3/4 inch belt. By "lever" do you mean the adjusting arm or the rods below the belt?

As Mike said, you need a 5/8 belt. The water pump pulley may
slip with that 1/2 inch belt causing an overheating problem.
You may also want a bit shorter belt so the alternator sits higher
in the adjustment slot, giving you a bit more clearance as well.

Well, whatever is right below the belt. When the tractor is idling, that lever automatically adjusts and gets put right beneath the belt now and literally scrapes off the rubber until the belt is thinned out and snaps off.

It just started doing that a couple of days ago when I turned on the tractor.

"Well, whatever is right below the belt."

That's your governor linkage. Rip it off and you'll be a whole
lot deeper in your pocket book than the correct belt! :)

Your belt is too narrow and looks like the alt pulley is wore out. Also looks in the photo your alt is mounted so the governor rod is hitting the belt. You need to raise the alt up higher.

Look for worn paint on the governor linkage. Garee belt is too narrow for the pulleys. V-belts should never ride in the bottom of the pulleys.....only the sides.
