1963 Ford 4000 SOS

If you're looking for the transmission, first, do NOT use atf. Use oil that meets or exceeds 134G or do what I do and just use 134G from my CNH dealer. It's spendy but oil is cheaper than parts and down time! The fill is a plug on the right side just in front of the foot rest.

Listen to Steve, below regarding the oil.

The fill/level plug is a simple pipe plug with a square head for a wrench. Many folks, myself included, remove the plug and install a street L (M/F 90 degree elbow) and put the plug in the top of the elbow. This makes it easier to add oil and you can now all a couple more quarts of oil into the transmission which is helpful if you operate your tractor on slopes.

FWIW, there is a filter beneath the top cover of your SOS that has likely not been changed in decades. For several years these filters were not available but they are now again available. No doubt, yours needs to be changed. If you decide to change yours, DO NOT attempt to do so without first posting here for instructions. An inexperienced mechanic can cause EXPENSIVE damage attempting to remove the top cover by using improper procedures.

Thank you.

Am i looking for a UTF?

Friendly word of advice, DO NOT put the wrong type of fluid in your S-O-S transmission in this tractor. The transmission will fail if you do. ATF will definitely cause this transmission to fail.

The fluid used must be compatible. CNH sells it, and there may be a few others that cross reference and are compatible, just VERIFY what you use is correct, or it will fail in short order.

10-4. Thanks everyone.

Valvoline 813 . . . or if you're in an area where you can get it, Archer Uni-Fluid XP. Either of those are great fluids for your SOS.
