I have a 1964 Ford 4000 Row crop Select-O-Speed. It had been converted to 12 volts with an alternator before I got it.
I recently replaced the ignition coil, which was a 12 volt coil. Should I add a ballast resistor? If so, which one? Whoever did the conversion did not put one on. The tractor ran fine for years without a resistor, until the coil went bad.

An example of what Larry is telling you would be a NAPA part number IC14SB. It is a true 12v coil that does not require an inline resistor.
