8700 hydraulics

Need some help. We have an 8700. Using it last week pulling manure spreader, turned PTO on, and an unbelievably loud whining came from under the floor board, PTO would not turn, nor would either rear remote work. I was able to get it home and unhooked, however the tractor would not pull itself to the shop. I just assumed it was the hydraulic pump. I put this last one in about 10 years ago. So, I put a rebuilt pump in today. No improvement whatsoever. Same symptoms. I will add that I am unsure if it ever primed, but I do not think it did. I did fill filters up with oil before I started the tractor to avoid a dry start. Any help? Getting desperate here. Thank you.

Your internal PTO drive shaft splines in the engine flywheel hub are stripped out. Be prepared for a double split - behind the engine to
replace the hub, and behind the transmission to replace the shaft.

Thanks Bern. You seem absolutely positive. Should there have been something I noticed when I put the pump in? Also, when I took the tractor to the shop, it would drive while making the whining noise, but each time it quit making the noise, it would quit moving, which is another reason I thought hydraulic pump (I figured when it was whining, it was trying to build pressure). I wondered if all the lines had pumped themselves empty and now it was just full of air? I just can not imagine what I would have done to strip those splines. We have had this tractor since new, so I know it

If you've had the tractor since new, I'm surprised those splines have lasted this long, to be honest with you. And yes, I'm absolutely
positive on my diagnosis. Why did the splines wear out? Old age and lots of hours! The stripped out shaft in question drives all of the
hydraulics as well as the PTO.

You would not have been able to see anything when you had the pump out, however you very likely should have been able to reach in and turn
the PTO/hydraulic pump drive gear by hand. This would have been the confirmation you were looking for, had you known then what you know now.
The actual stripped splines are in the engine flywheel hub.

Well, that is disappointing. Yeah, we have owned this 8700 (7800hrs), a 7700 (9100hrs) a 7600 (4900 hrs) and a poor little 4000 su which has had a loader on it all of its life (currently on its 5th loader) with, you will not believe this but it is true, 27,400 hrs. The hour meter has rolled twice. Never even had the motor opened up. Anyway, owned all since new. I love going to get parts because our dealer always tells me that the part I am needing was never on that particular tractor and a previous owner has changed it for some reason, then I get to argue until I am blue in the face that there is no previous owner. Bern, I truly appreciate all you have told me and educated me. You are truly a tractor guru. Thank you.
