Having trouble with my 861 diesel. Starts rite up. And idles very well. Once I start giving in throttle it starts to miss very bad and smokes very bad. Cleaned and changed fuel filter. When I bring back to an idle she stalls out. Any idea?

Fuel return line plugged, likely with debris from a failed governor retaining ring. Remove return line from pump. Provide means to pipe escaping fuel into a suitable container. Post back.

Oops! posted too fast. Could be in the return elbow at the pump as well. Some of them had a check valve in 'em and some didn't.

On mine it is just an elbow. I took that
line off and there was no blockage as far as
I could tell. Should I be able to blow threw
this?

If there's no check valve, then yes!

The manual says never hook your return line back to the inlet line. I had a pump that had a check valve on the return line and it would stall. I took the check out and it runs fine. You might want to check your very fine pump inlet strainer. Clean it good with starting fluid first, and after you crack it open a little. You dont want anything besides fuel going in there.
