I have a 555D Backhoe with a major engine knock before it laid down. No holes in the block but there is a major failure inside the motor. Everything Im reading the hoe has a 256 ci in it. So hearing some ford tractors have this same motor in them. Would like to find a good runner to swap out. Would like to find id numbers to make sure what i have first. Any info or help will be greatly appreciated.

555D made 93-95 does use the 256 4 cylinder non turbo engine, 555C also used the same 256.
256 non turbo engine was used in the 69- later 5000, 5610, 6600, 6700 ag tractors, a good option would also be the 268 engine used in the 6610.
There where design changes during the engines production such as head intake port design along with a different intake manifold and different injection pumps, searching for a engine near to the same years as yours would some likely get you one that would be a direct fit.

Call R.F. Engine 800-828-9643 where I used to work. We kept reman long and short blocks on the shelf, although this time of year sometimes sold out. Ask for Matt ext 238, or Cody ext 221.

The 5500 and 5550 backhoes used that motor. The 750 and 755 have the turbo on them, but same 256. Seems the turbo motor would bolt in as well.

When I rented a 555 and the neighbor had one, only 3 cylinder engines....

According to my reference, the 555, 555A and 555B all used the 201 3 cylinder engine and they changed to the 4 cylinder 256 starting with the 555C.

Well if anyone knows of anyone that has a salvage tractor with a good running used engine they want to sell please send them this away. Thanks.
