Tach drive gear on 3 cyl 2000 gas

The driven gear on my tach drive, attached to the back of the generator was shot. I purchased a new aftermarket one on this site for $6.00. It lasted exactly 2 tenths of an hour before the composite teeth were destroyed. Upon examination the replacement gear is not quite the same as the original. Is there such a thing as buying the right part, a good part for this? The original number is C5NF17373B

I have an NOS drive gear that I bought at the dealer about 15 years ago. It came in original FORD packaging. I never did use it.
I'll sell it for $6 plus shipping.
If you'd rather, I have an NOS one in the original drive housing if you'd like that.
$6 plus shipping.
Last but not least, I have a complete generator that I'm about 90% sure is NOS. It is beat up and rusty and one mounting ear is broken off. It has the drive gear attached. I believe the internals of the generator are brand new but I make no promises.
Use it for parts to rebuild your current generator when/if needed
I'll sell the whole generator with drive gear for six bucks plus shipping.

I have had that happen when the generator shaft worm was worn down so much that it only engaged the edge of the new gear. Had to replace the genny' to get a good end. I replace those gears all the time have have good luck. One of the gears did slip due to the center spinning in the plastic though. Not bad for around 14 gears now. The tach cable must spin freely while engaged in the dash unit. I have had the dash units froze up, and have had tach cables binding. So I buy the gears 6 at a time, tach cables 5 at a time and always keep a spare instrument panel in stock. I also keep gennys', and vr's in stock as they are usually in need also.

Thanks for the info. I considered the possibility of the generator drive being too worn out to work but then I got out the caliper and found that the new aftermarket gear was actually smaller in diameter than the old gear. Not by a whole lot but you could see that the new gear and the old gear are not the same; close but not the same
