Mowing Machine

Folks, 15 or 20 years ago I searched for a similar mowing tractor for about 3 years before giving up and buying a much more expensive new tractor.

Yes, it's a gasser, and a S-O-S (which I prefer) and it has turf tires, but it's an LCG and check out the hours and price.

It would make a great mowing tractor for steep ground.

It is advertised in the printed version of the Ohio Autotrader.

Such ads must be paid in advance, so it is likely legitimate.

(quoted from post at 18:49:04 05/20/18) SOS tractors are always slower and cheaper... and not for the weak of heart. Seems like a good buy.

Misstated... "slower to sell and cheaper when sold"

I get one in every year or so, that I cant turn down, but they take a long long long time to sell.

About two hours from me, but from that one picture, about
$1500 - $2000 too high when including the trip for this area.
The SOS tractors just don't sell well here.

(quoted from post at 19:47:56 05/16/18) 765 is not a Michigan area code, so watch out.

Ian, these days when people move they take their phone number with them. Here in NH many many people have MA area code phones.

Dean - I was browsing CL and came across this same tractor - https://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/grd/d/1970-ford-4000-tractor/6568364271.html - there's no picture from the back, but there's one that appears to show no fat rear axle/wet brakes which means this is not a 4000, but maybe a 3000? Am I correct on this?It does look like a decent tractor with a bit of work with/new carburetor -

David

It looks like a 4110, which was the Low Center of Gravity (LCG) model in the 4000 series. It has the same swept back front axle with radius rods and double sided steering as the 2000/3000 series and the single reduction rear axle with the outboard dry drum brakes like the 2000/3000 series also. The front axle spindles were shorter than the standard 2000/3000 spindles, and it came with shorter rear tires. It was basically the same as the 2110 LCG model in the 2000 series except that it had the larger displacement and more powerful 4000 series engine.
