Fuel cap....

Got a 640 Ford an it definitely has the wrong cap on it. It’s a diesel fuel cap and it doesn’t screw down tight an rattles....makes a LOT of noise! This is for a 134 engine, does it require a vented or a non vented cap? Don’t wanna order the wrong one. TIA

Check with your dealer as the free cap exchange may still be in effect. If not, the New Holland sourced cap will have the correct roll over shut off that the aftermarket caps lack so is worth the price.

There was a Service Bulletin in effect since the 60's when lawsuits were being filed against Ford for leaking gas issues. They offered a replacement 'vented' type gas cap in exchange for your old original one. I got one of the vented types back in 2003, but I do not know if the Service Bulletin is still in effect or not -it was back then. The exchange was good for any gas model tractor. Check with your local CNH Dealer on this. The Hundred Series uses a different cap than the N-Series, but still new ones are available at nnalert . This is the now obsolete notice and some pictures of my gas caps when I first got the vented type. I will try and find the correct service bulletin number and get back. If the Service Bulletin is no longer effective, there are new types of vented gas caps and some include a gauge on top. Check with Dennis Carpenter and Red Rock Mfg. too.

Was still in effect when I left the dealership in 2004 and we'd heard no rumors about it being cancelled. The program was probably a result of a lawsuit settlement.

Look at Tim's picture. Inside the white portion is a ball or equivalent that closes the hole when the tractor rolls over.

The exchange program is still in effect. I just got one last October for my 961 and one about 3 years ago for my 4000. You do still need to give them the old cap.
