Ford 600 piston to 800 piston

Going to rebuild my 600 engine and I want to get it bored for 800 pistons. The only question I have is are the 600 and 800 pistons the same height or do I need different rods to make up some difference

They have the same stroke, and the same rods...
however... you'll run out of cylinder wall material
before you get a 134 block bored out to 172 specs.
Why not just get a 172 block, if you're looking for
added cubic inches?

You can't do that. Why? As mentioned, the 600 has a 134 cu/in bored block and the 800 has a 172 cu/in block. I suggest you just keep your 600 with the stock 134 pistons. Options: A)rebuild the 600 to specs, then keep it or sell it; B) If you choose to sell, then you can get that 800 model; C) keep the 600 after rebuild, then buy that 800 -one can never have too many tractors... ; > )

I thought that the blocks would be the same regardless of bore. It would seem like a lot of extra work to make 2 different blocks.

You could compromise. I have a used set of oversized pop-up pistons you could bore your block even if it
is sleeved (I have done that). I can't remember if they are .060 or .080 over. They are good I just don't
think I will ever use them.

Well is there any other way to beef it up like porting out the manifold and intake

You can port the head but you buy the 4000 intake and you can run one of the bigger carbs. I built a 134
with the 3.5 inch pop-up pistons, milled the head .050, ported and polished the head, Put in bigger
intake valves, and used the bigger intake and carburetor. Unfortunately I sold it before i got it
running. I think the best thing would be to raise the compression and do a little work behind the valves.
We called it a bowl job. Doing the full port I don't believe would help that much if any. Bigger carbs
and manifold would just make drink more gas.
The only other thing I thought about was pulling the sleeves out and find the closest matching piston to
that size bore. I thought that the standard bore 172 piston was probably close enough to use with a
minimum amount of boring. I never could find the dimension to assess whether that could be done. I know
they did that on 8ns with a piston made for that application.
