Hi,
I've had an old ford tractor that I bought about 20 years ago.
We only used it for about an hour every year.
It was from a local farmer that was retiring.

I've got a little more time now, and started thinking about restoring it.
If you guy's could help me, I have some questions about some numbers on the side of the transmission?
I have pictures.

It was a nice looking tractor when I bought it, however now the paint is starting to peal and the tractor is looking tired.
I'm looking to find out what year so I can start putting together a plan if I decide to restore or sell.
The numbers are on the left side of tractor down low.
see pictures

Thanks

Mike, you can get the model # and serial # of that unit off of the flat spot just aft of the starter. It's behind that vertical bracket just under the air cleaner and tube that runs to the carb. By the way, hang onto that bracket and the one under the tractor you can see all the way on the left side of picture. They're getting hard to come by. They are for mounting a single arm loader or a one arm loader as many call it.

Tom's steering you right on where the numbers are.
Looks like it may have been a gold demonstrator. 871/881.

I followed your direction to the area behind what looks like an attachment plate.
It looks like it had some blue paint at one time.

I had to brush and sand away some rust, and found some numbers on the top flat part behind the plate.
Does this look right to you?

I thought maybe the gold was some primer they used until I googled "gold demonstrator".
Interesting story about the select O speed transmission.
It looks like the gold tractors were an earlier year.
However, why do you think my transmission is gold?

I didn't look up the casting numbers but that would sound right.
801 is the series. Specific model numbers would include all of the
different options and transmissions. 841, 851, 861, 871, 881 etc.
Your transmission model number says it came in a 871. Other parts may have
been changed over the years but it looks pretty straight from the pictures.

Production code A209= Jan 20,1959 would be right for a gold demo. Your serial number does not indicate that. I would guess a gold demo case was used in a possible rebuild and dealer restamped the proper serial number. Other production numbers on engine block rear and radiator would probably suggest a later year than a demo. Standard colors should be used.
If you don't have the loader and are taking the brackets on the trans and and the front axle carrier off for the loader I would be interested in buying them. My email is open.
