Ford 1710 Steering Dampener and brackets

Hi All

Got a Ford 1710 with 4 wheel drive. It has a bracket for the steering dampener mounted in the middle of the front axle (top picture). From the NewHolland parts breakdown, there should be a bracket on the right hand side at the wheel (bottom picture, dusty from discing).

Am I missing something? Why would one bracket be missing? No missing paint, no evidence anything was removed.

The tractor seems to steer just fine, or maybe I don't know any better. Should I bother to chase down the missing bracket, and is some type of replacement shock still available?

Thanks,
Eric O

I agree with bern but I did replace my shock because it was bent when I got the tractor I brought it to a auto parts store and matched it. The first pic shows how the shock attaches to the bracket you are looking for, pic 2 shows how the bracket attaches to the tractor front drive. pic 3 shows the bracket you have. I mowed a 10 acre field with it disconnected all summer before replacing the shock and can't say I noticed any difference.

Hi Flembo,

That is great information. I read in several places that the shock usually got pinched, bent, or knocked due to the exposed location. I will go out this weekend and look between the front right tire rim and the output drive hub to see if there is any marks. I bet it the whole thing got bent and the hub side bracket removed.

Cant tell the difference? Good to know it is probably not worth the effort to restore.
