New User
Hey y all, I'm a newbie trying to start a hobby farm. Right now getting set for doing hay on a small 30 acre farm (only cutting about 17 acres. Bought a 4630 turbo diesel and I'm trying to identify year. The serial number under hood was removed. Cast into the ear for the loader on the left is 072484B. As I said I'm new to farming and new to this forum. Go easy on me please. :) I'll be looking for lots of advice and help in the coming months/years. I'm in North East TN. Thanks.

It is not often that you need to know the year. You buy parts by model number and sometimes there is a serial number break but still no need for year. Two places to look for the serial number are on the right side of the transmission housing, and on the very back of the top of the rear housing.

With your 4630 being a turbo diesel model it would be a 95-99 model with the 192 ci turbo diesel engine.
Pryer to 95 they used the 201 non turbo engine on the 4630.

Look on the flat pad on the right side of the transmission behind the starter, the model, serial and production date number should be stamped into the housing there.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure if much or anything changed between years. I guess I was just trying to start someplace. Any idea on a good loader for this?

072484B would be the serial number for a mid to late 97 model.

I like Bush Hog brand but several other good brands out there, whatever you get make sure it's one of the newer quick attach models that's easy to put on and take off.

(quoted from post at 11:20:26 05/08/18) Ford didn't do changes by serial number, they did changes with month/year of build

Major changes to my Ford 8240 are referenced by serial number. I believe that this has been the case for many years as it is for many manufacturers.

7310 ford is a good match for a loader, but there are many choices, I would also vote for the quick attach type. You have the same year 4630 as mine.
