2000 ford questions

I thought that when they went to the 3cly
tractors they was all equipped with live pto
and 8 speeds. But i just started noticing
these 4speed 3cly 2000. I was just wondering
if these was live pto? I been kinda looking
for a small tractor with live pto and these
are usally pretty cheap.im assuming there
not just bc 4speed fords usally are not.
Thanks for your help.

The 3-cylinder 2000 was initially available as only a gas/4-speed. Diesel and 8-speed options were added some time after 1965. 4-speeds are all transmission driven, non-live pto. Later, mid-1968 I think, the 4-speed was replaced by the 6-speed. live pto was an option with the 6-speed, but uncommon. Most 8-speeds did have live pto, but even some 8-speeds weren't live... have to check it over before buying.

It funny iv never hurd of a 8speed non live power tractor until your post and iv just found one. A guy i work with has it for sale, do you think one 8 speed with no live power would run a tiller ok? I can make it with out live power i have before.

The 2000 and 3000 also had a 6 speed transmission available. I've seen more 6 speed 2000's than I've seen 8 speeds, and more 8 speed 3000's than 6 speeds. Also, most 2000's I've seen have had non-live PTO, regardless of whether it has a 6 speed or 8 speed while most 3000's have had live PTO. I think that if someone was spending the extra money for a 3000 over a 2000 back in the day they were more likely to spend a little bit more and get the live PTO.

Ground speed is more important than having live pto for running a tiller. The 8-speed gives a nice, slow 1st gear gor jobs like that.

My 2000 4 cyl is 4 sp, tranny PTO.....yeah I know it's not a '65 up 3 cyl. My '65 3000 has as you say 8 sp, LIve. Funny I had that sucker for
10 years probably and the PO had put a 6 speed shift pattern sticker on it rather than an 8 speed so I never tried to go all the way over and
up. Was thrilled when I accidentally discovered the 4th hi/lo gear.

Thanks. That kinda what i was thought but wasnt sure. I think i can get this one for a good price bc the guy bought it for a fixer uper and has bough a newer tractor instead.

Just another point... the 4 speed was never offered with live PTO. It was only offered with transmission driven PTO, unless you count the hydraulic disconnect for the differential that they offered for the NAA, as they called that one "live PTO" but it was really just a traction disconnect and the PTO was still transmission driven.
