Hole in top cover

I took my top cover off today thinking something was wrong with the linkage or cam follower pin, but everything looks brand new. What doesn't look brand new is the lift ram which has broken in two. I also discovered there is a hole in the back of the cover by the main spring that looks to have been patched with JB weld.

I see I can order a new lift ram and shaft, but I'm curious what the issues would be if I cobble up another patch job for that hole on the lift cover. Is it likely to be something I could find in salvage instead?

oops, it's an 860.

I'd rather not just patch it but I don't know where to find another top cover or how much I'd be looking at if I did happen to find one.

Check salvage yards. It should be easy to find a whole top cover assembly including a good lift cylinder. Then you will have those "new" parts on yours to swap into it as needed.

Don't know what shipping would be
from Alabama ,but Midsouth Tractor
Parts in Decatur AL should have
one. Huge Salvage yard. Or Jim may
have one! Lol.

(quoted from post at 17:47:26 04/22/18) Wengers of Myerstown ,Pa has a lift cover for 150.00

Al

That sounds like a very good deal!! I was going to suggest wengers but I expected them to list it for three times that.

I would run an ad on your local craigslist.
Often people will flag/delete it if you say
want to buy.
Post the ad title - hydraulic lift cover for
Ford 800 - then when they open it say want
to buy.
Mention the cover for any of the 4 cylinder
Fords from 1955-1964 will fit.
You'll likely find a private party that way
and it will be local so no huge shipping
costs.
That is an item that does not sell quickly
so some hobbiest with a parts tractor will
be glad to sell.
I had a complete top cover for a 3 cylinder
4000 that I advertised on cl several times
for $25 and never did get a call. I finally
got tired of tripping over it and scrapped
it.

3 hours on Craigslist and I'm in the money. Worked like a charm.
