I am rebuilding the hydraulic piston pump on my '74 Ford 3000 using a rebuild kit. The original pump was working but it leaked when lifting a heavy load. When I opened it up a small part of one of the gaskets was missing which probably explains the leak.
In reassembling the pump I have a question concerning the tripod shaped guides. The originals have a wider space at the top (the two on the right in the picture) that allows the balls to pass through. The new ones from the kit have a small space (two on the left side in picture) and the ball cannot pass through the hole. Notice on the left the tripod holds the ball in place. I am not sure which setup is correct. Should the balls be able to pass through the round section of the tripods?
Thanks.
