Might be a good old picker if it hasn't set outside forever, 62 or older as implements went blue in 63 same as the tractors, Red models had narrower elevators.
$500 is to high for that machine, I gave $500 for my last on that was a one owner always shedded, had been setting inside a barn for 30 years when I bought it

Picked corn with it that fall

"Red models had narrower elevators" I hate to be picky of a post but there happens to be a two row rounded side elevator picker in my machine shed, and last I looked is was red, and always was red when I ran it, for years. Sorry! I am not sure of the year but believe it to be 1961 when the "wider", actually not wider but higher(deeper) side elevators were introduced.

I don't know anything about the two row models, I've only seen a couple of the blue models and haven't been around any that where mounted and operating.
As for the one row models a couple of neighbors had the earlier red models and the elevator on our blue 64 model was wider.
As for the high speed elevator I have one with a husking bed and one with a cross conveyor, the one with the husking bed has a much faster elevator than the one with the cross conveyor. Dad's had the cross conveyor and to the best of my memory it was around the same slower speed as my cross conveyor model.
I can't say if the blue elevators are faster than the red ones but I can say my blue one row elevator is wider than any of the red one row elevators I've ever seen, including the on posted on CL.

I miss read your post and now see you where talking about higher sides, not higher speed. My apologies.

However I still stand by the fact that mine have wider elevators than any red model I've seen. I was always told this happened around the time they were changed to blue, no documented facts.
As for the higher sides your probably right, I noticed the width difference but never paid attention to the depth of the sides, the ones I seen may have been older than 60-61 models

Know for a fact that there is no difference in the width of the two two row mounted models. But have been no closer than 20 rods from a one row semi- mounted, but assumed they were the same as the two row. Could be wrong!

The rear elevator was wider on all 601 pickers red or blue. It is
at least twice as wide as the earlier 16-65,67 one rows. I?ll
measure both tomorrow so we can compare

Side elevators! Ok looks like we were on the wrong page with each other, it's all good.
I never even thought about the side elevator, I to would assume they are all the same.

Here are the measurements I came up with

16-67 Early Red one row
Side elevator 6 1/2 inches wide 15 inches overall height
Rear elevator 6 1/2 inches wide 8 5/8 inches deep

601 Red Rounded Top Head one row
Side elevator 6 1/2 inched wide 17 inches overall height
Rear elevator 9 inches wide 8 5/8 inches deep

Destroked 450 if you get a chance measure the rear elevator on your blue 601. I have noticed in some pictures the blue looks wide but I don't know if its any wider
than the 9 inches

Took a moment to measure mine

Side elevator is 6 1/2x17
Rear elevator is 9x8 1/2 ish, probably 5/8
The measurements were the same on all of the pickers I measured, even dad's old picker he bought new in 64 (still have it for parts)
Looks like the info I was told was wrong and the difference is between the model change and not the color change.
Don't remember if those neighbors had the 601 model number on the side of the elevator or not so it's possible they were 16-67 models instead of 601's

Anyone know how to tell what year the pickers where made.
My model 16-123 with husking bed is serial # 4039
My model 16-121 with cross conveyor is serial # 5987
Was hoping to use dad's as a reference since I know it's a 64 model with cross conveyor, but unfortunately the tag had been torn off.
Odd that the 601 still uses the 16 as part of the model number on the tag.

As far as I can research they changed designs in 61 and went to the 601/602 designation in the brochures and parts books. The 601/602 decal didn't appear on the elevator
until the color changed. Looking at my ads and brochures it looks like they changed the color to blue in late 63 or early 64. Have a lot of stuff with red pickers on blue
2000 4000 6000s. Have one magazine ad dated 64 that has a blue picker on a blue tractor. I haven't been able to find any thing on the serial numbers being what year. Wish
there was some info somewhere so we could tell.
