4000 - need help identifying plug?

I’ve got a 1968 Ford 4000. 3cyl has with the select-o-speed. I’ve got a persistent hydraulic leak I decided to investigate today. I thought hydraulic fluid was leaking from the platform mount on the right side (brake side). Every time I fill up the reservoir I get a leak coming from right around my right heel. I took the platform off and the leak is coming from this bolt above the rear platform mount. I pulled the bolt out and it’s about an 1.5” long 1/4” bolt but it has a tip on the end similar to a slotted screw driver. Thing is, I can’t get the bolt back in. So what is this bolt? I’m assuming it has something to do with the hydraulic system. How do I get it back in?
Here’s a pic:
It’s the bolt halfway out above those 2 mounting holes.

Well that bolt holds return tube, has cage nut. No easy way to get back in. May need new seal washer on bolt. Easy way but takes 2 to do it. Take cover off other side so can hold tube up and have helper start bolt or have to pull lift cover, while in that way just as well change filter on end of tube.

As Shaun says, that bolt holds a tube
inside.
If your lift is working properly I would
not pull the lift cover though.
It's pretty easy to remove the round cover
on the opposite side of the rear end and
you hold the tube in place while a helper
gets the screw started. Look inside with a
flashlight you will see what to do. Pretty
easy really.
Put a plastic or nylon washer (not rubber)
on the bolt before you reinstall it or it
will continue to seep there.
By the way, how hard was it to pull the
platform off?

Thanks for the help guys. I’ll remove that side cover and go at it.

It wasn’t hard to take the step off. It was just held on by 6 carriage bolts. A few of them I had to grind off the heads, but other than that it was easy.

I thought the leak may have been from a previous owner putting too long of a step bolt in. I’m glad that’s not the case.

Thanks again for the help.

How high are you filling the rear end with fluid? I'm pretty sure that bolt is a little higher than the level check hole, which is the one with the square headed plug at the right edge of your picture.

I fill it to the square plug hole like the book says. I probably have a few leaks in the reservoir. This bolt was the most obvious one I saw. Thankfully the platform mount isn’t leaking, so I don’t have issues there.

That square plug is about 1” higher than the platform on my tractor. The leaking bolt is about at the platform. So yeah it doesn’t leak much, but after I fill it up there’s a good size puddle on the ground the next morning.

Got another dumb question: does the brake lever shaft go through the hydraulic tank, or is it in a separate hole in the casting? Everything around the bottom there is wet with oil, and it almost looks like it could be coming out from around the brake shaft that goes from the pedal to the left wheel. Is that a possible leak?
Thanks for the help.
