NAA Strg.Gear Packing

I posted this question in the N forum, but no replies. A wider audience may help me. On the N's and maybe many others there is a packing, 8N-33546 Packing-Steering gear lash adjuster. MPC 53 thru 59 page 3-22 Mine is getting a rebuild and wonder what anyone has done to replace this very small cork packing. With the nut and washer tightened against it, it prevents oil from seeping around the threads.

Hi TwoOaks, I missed your post on the N forum. According to my early MPC (up to '53 NAA) 8N-33546 is part of a kit. It looks like you need 8N-3555-B for a NAA.

Thanks Jim. I just now looked in the YT store and the internet too. there aren't any kits I could see. I've already ordered the seals, dust covers and O-rings, but can locate this packing anywhere. May be if I put cornhead grease in it I won't even need the packing.

Did no know there wuzz such a thang so I am gonna say I don't replace it and never had a leak there... Now that I know theirs is such a thang I would use a o-ring and move on with life...

Thanks Hobo fer thee add vise. Bimy, yall done give me paws ta sidder what's poure'nt er not. I'lls march on down ta town and finds the ring ah needs. BTW, my Yankee sis done moved to Gaston NC nigh on to 20 yars now. She says folks talk right purtty thar and is neighborly too.

I think you will hit a home run with a -013 o-rang.... The one I took apart just now I would bet has a o-rang not a cork seal... I spec the seal never came out on me I never looked for one.

If you are lucky enoufh to have a industrial/mill supply store they may have string packing that will also get'er done... Another option is Faucet Packing Cord PTFE....
