Ford HD Industrial cigarette lighter?

I just picked up this HD Industrial last weekend, seems to run
well but needs a lot including the dreaded cable steer repaired
or replaced. The tractor has a select o speed and original rear
weight box. Found a cigarette lighter mounted on the side of
the hood I thought it was interesting and did not think this was
an option for this model. I wanted to see what you guys
thought.

The cigar lighter came out as an accessory in January 1950. Part number was 8n9004601 which came with a bracket. They never drill a hole in the hood.
On your 1801 you may want to consider a 4000 swap. Mine has PS off a truck.

Definitely need to make sure that you swap out your old 6 volt lighter element with a 12 volt one when you convert the tractor to 12 volts... otherwise it will burn itself up the first time that you go to use it. Might even cause a fire depending the wiring that was used.

What Industrial Model do you have? CIGAR LIGHTERS, as they were called and sold as, were available only as an optional accessory from the dealer, never a factory OEM item, shows up in my parts catalogs as first appearing in 1947 in the Dearborn Parts Accessories Catalog, part number, 8N-9004601, for model year 1948 as the new 8N Model Tractor was now in production. Ironic how nowadays, auto makers still put cigar/cigarette lighters in their vehicles, but no longer install ashtrays. Their rationale is that they are also used for cell phone chargers and DC powered devices like laptop power supplies. So why do they put a lighter AND another similar outlet in their vehicles? Could it be that although the US gubment has poo-poo'd smoking now and outlawed smoking practically everywhere, you are still free to smoke in your car and the auto companies don't want to lose a sale because no lighter is available. Drivers love their luxuries. I'm sure glad I quit smoking in 1986 when a pack of cigarettes cost $1.00. I don't understand how many folks still smoke today as a pack now costs on average about $5.00...

It has been my experience in looking at new cars recently that they install the power port but not the actual cigar/cigarette lighter, and the hole for the power port usually has some sort of cover so kids don't stick their fingers into them. To get the actual lighter element these days you have to pay for the "smokers premium package" which includes the lighter and an ashtray that usually fits into one of the cupholders.

Doesn't matter much to me these days as I quit in 2005 after a bout of plurisy (funny how being in pain just from just breathing makes you not want to inhale a cigarette), and my wife was never a smoker.
