Loader for 4000 su

Guys, so I have a 3400 that has given me one too many fits. I found a ford 4000 SU with low hours for a good deal. I know from posts that the 3400 loader will fit the 3000 if you also transfer over the bolster and axle and steering arms oil pan and etc. I also presume from posts that the 4000 SU is the same as the 3000. So to make sure... Will my loader from my 3400 fit the 4000 SU if I transfer all these parts??? Or is there something different with the SU such as the oil pan that would prevent it? Thanks for any insight.

Everything is the same in the front of the tractor, bolster, axles, oil pan as on a 3000
4000SU has planetary drive rear axle which is bigger than one on a 3000, You may have the modify the back part of the loader frame some to make it fit.
I did transfer a loader from a 4000SU to a late model 3000 some years ago, we had some issues mounting it up but it wasn't anything major, don't remember what we had to do.

The two tractors will be the same
length from the back end of the
transmission to the front end of the
bolster.
However;
The length of the rear center housing -
from the back of the transmission to
the center of the rear axle is longer
on the SU.
Hard to measure accurately here but it
looks like about 1 1/2".
Also, the SU axle is wider than the
3400 axle.
The swap will be almost a direct bolt
on but you will need to lengthen the
loader frame where it bolts under the
axle. That should Not be at all hard to
do.
Putting the 3400 front end onto the SU
for loader work would be a marriage
made in heaven imo.

I was really hoping that is what you guys would say. Seems like it should be a great setup. Welding some plate for an extension sounds a lot better than trying to make other almost fit parts work. Thanks for the really fast reply.

One other thing some people don't notice is the
steering arms on the steering box.
The 3400 arms are bent slightly different and
are a little shorter than the SU steering arms.
So swap those along with the 3400 front end.
There are also a couple of shims behind the
radius rod sockets to switch over too.

I do remember reading about the steering arms. Didn't know about the shims.

Hope it's still available on Saturday. Excited to have found an SU. Just wish it had 4wd and a heated cab :).

Thanks a ton!

Are other parts also interchangeable? I have many new parts on the 3400. Power steering pump, alternator, electronic ignition ignition and coil, rebuilt starter, distributor cap, rotor, wires etc. ???

Except...
A couple, 3? years ago I looked at a
4000 SU that's stored in a corner of
the parking ramp at a local university.
It had the 3400 axle.
Was in a hurry but jotted down the code
and looked it up later. It specced out
as an SU and not as a Woods tractor.
My wife was indignant as we were going
to a fancy concert and here I am in my
good clothes pawing at a tractor. :)
It had about 600+ lbs of various
weights haphazardly bolted onto the
front end.

Maybe they did the same as me and started a frankintractor. Thanks for that picture Ultradog. Gave me a good chuckle as I find myself in those shoes often. They will never understand us.

I'm looking at the SU on Saturday. I can't find what the acceptable compression range should be for a gas. (All over the net for a diesel). Anyone have those specs? Thanks!!
