Screw on Hydraulic filter

I bought an 871 that has a screw on hydraulic filter underneath the seat on the right side. I want to change it, but can't find out anything about. Can
anyone help, the New Holland dealer says it doesn't exist.

There was an optional dealer add on kit way back when to add a filter to the hydraulics, that sounds like what you have. I believe it takes the same filter as the later 4 cylinder tractors that have a spin on engine oil filter. Greg NE

Thanks. I'm concerned because I know the SOS was changed out for a later model. I'm worried that they also swapped out the rear end. The casting # on the center is a #312480. Does anyone know if that was what was used with a 871 or with say a 641?

I wouldn't be surprised if a Motorcraft FL-1A wouldn't fit it, same filter that fits most all ford engines for 40 years or so, WW stocks them.. I had an '88 Ford 150 5.O L, a '63 2000D, 64 4000D and '65 3000 conversion and all used that filter for oil....none had spin on hyd filters. Get the threads, get the seal ID/OD, gpm and mesh blockage and you are there. Most engine filters are 20 micron, considered full flow. Your hyd pump is about 7 gpm for a number....go to the Wix site and plug in the Ford filter. They will give you a cross reference that spells out all the dimensions, flow rating, and mesh. Other sites do that too but I like the Wix site and yes I use their filters off and on.

The filters costs about 6 bucks give or take. If it is too restrictive your hydraulics will be slow. You aren't going to hurt anything as any increase in pressure is on the high side and there are pressure overload valves in the system and if it should spring a leak it will bulge before it would split a seam.

Ford furnished an optional hydraulic filter kit, dealer installed in the 1960s. The FL1A Motorcraft filter was the suggested filter installed on the return side of the system

Your tractor is probably older than the parts salesman :)

Would like one of those accessories catalog some day. Haven't seen one in 50 years. Left the dealership in 1964. Have used FL1A filters on two tractors for years. They are the handiest ones at WW for $3.99
