Looking at a 8340 sle with 4quadrant powershift high range odd gears 1-3-5-7 slip when under load no load they are fine even gears 2-4-6-8 are fine. What's wrong with this tractor Clutch pack ? Calibration outta sink ? I know there are some guys on here that know about these appreciate any input and advice :?:

maybe someone will chime in that knows this tractor. From my perspective, knowing just enough about powershifts in general to make me dangerous, I'd say you are right on with your diagnosis of a weak clutch pack. Now you just have to figure out why it's weak.

I sold my money pit 8240 two years ago. The transmission of the one you are looking at needs a $5,000 overhaul. All new seals and bearings and five NLA solenoid valves. The next year it will need a new SLE hydraulic pump $6500 plus labor. RUN! RUN!

(quoted from post at 01:57:53 03/17/18) I don?t disagree.
So if I buy this tractor cheap enough the trans is a lost cause even if I want to rebuild it? Was hoping the clutch packs outta calibration -but worried that the 1-3-5-7 slipping in high range is beyond calibration. Tractor shifts fine just slips in these gears only under a heavy load (pulling plow or harrow) other wise you can't tell it owner did say that it blew a fuse for a shift solinoid and dealer replaced the solinoid and fuse or relay was hoping some one on here could shed a little light on the malfuntion of the trans I know how to put it through the calibration mode and read the display for values indicating wear on packs but I haven't done that yet

You can?t lose anything by calibrating it and comparing values. A service manual will tell you what clutches are applied in the various speeds,
that will lead you to the problem circuit. Meantime, maybe someone will stop by and tell you what you want to hear.

I said that the transmission needs a $5,000 overhaul, not that it is a lost cause. If you can do it yourself it will certainly cost less. It is my understanding that the clutch packs, 5-7 or however many there are, adjust themselves or you adjust them by going through the recal process until the seals get too badly worn, then it needs a major overhaul. You need to keep in mind that there are five solenoid valves to operate the transmission and the MFWA shift. When the new owner of mine went to get a new one for the MFWA, they were NLA. He had to get a used one. As soon as he backed it out of his shop another one of the valves went. He was able to get another used one. Does it have a white or blue roof? If it is blue the valves are on the outside behind the right wheel. If the roof is white they are inside the trans housing. The SLE hydraulic pump is VERY expensive, $6,000. When mine went they thought that it could be rebuilt but it turned out that it couldn't because the housing was worn. They say that you are on thin ice with an SLE pump after 5,000 hours. I would not touch that tractor with a twenty foot pole unless I had a set of new solenoid valves in hand. That is the primary deal breaker.
