unknown model number

Guy on another forum is trying to figure out exactly what he bought. Hood decal says 4100. Has twin 3-point levers, double reduction rear end, diesel engine, 6-speed transmission, swept-back front axle, and dry air cleaner/low mounted headlights. Also has yellow paint under the blue. The stamped numbers he's found are 3G19R (probably a B, not an R), 390360 (at least the A,B, or C is missing, maybe more?) and D5C12K. I haven't been able to match it to anything in my books. The twin 3-point levers and dry air cleaner and tin style say x600 series. As far as I've been able to find, both the 4100 and 4600SU were 8-speed/independent pto only. The D would indicate a 4xxx variant, and the K should be a 6x4 manual reversing, right? He says 2 reverse speeds.

I don't find anything in my records that shows a D5C, D50 would be a 4500 which doesn't fit with other things this tractor has. Non of the records I have show the 3rd digit being a letter.

Yeah, me either. Wondering if there are more digits he hasn't found or aren't accurate... like the letter at the beginning of his serial number, or the R in the unit number. Just doesn't fit.

Kinda what I am leaning towards it being, even if the previous owner said not... but even then, I/we should be able to figure out the model number. Wonder if he's checked under the hood for the tag, like I suggested?

D5C12K doesn't match anything in my references, but it sound like a 4100 or 4600SU from the configuration. I don't find anything that says either of those was only offered with an 8 speed though, so the 6 speed is a possibility as far as I know. Are you sure that it's a regular 6 speed? The K at the end of the model number should be a 6x4 manual reverser.

The 4600SU model designators were DS1 and DS2. The 4100 designators were KA1 & KA2, so I don't think it could be that, so I'm thinking the D5C might actually be DS2, making it a 4600SU.

If that 390360 serial number has a C at the beginning, then it would be a 1973 serial number from the thousand series, so it's not that with the double quadrant handles. Could be an "A" or "B" serial number that low and be in the '75-'81 run of the x600 series. And the 3G19R(B) would be a June 19 1973 Unit Number, so my guess would be a DS2 4600SU.

Although all of this is only guesses based on the numbers stamped in the transmission, and the trans might have been swapped out at some point.

Did you ask him if the sticker was still there under the hood?

He found the sticker, but says it's unreadable. He posted a picture showing a D7NN4024A casting number on the differential case.
D7 would be 1977, right? More raised numbers above that - 12 5 78 Reads like a date, but I didn't think they put dates in the
casting like that. I think he needs to REALLY clean the numbers on the bellhousing if he really wants to know what they say it is.
It almost has to be different than what he has posted.
As far as the 4100 and 4600 SU (and the 4000 SU, for that matter) being 8-speed only, that's from my sales literature.

I?m wondering if it?s a 6x4 and he is describing it inaccurately. But that would be highly uncommon to find in a 4100. A straight 6 speed in a 4100 would be a rarity, too.

I think it's possibly a 4600SU that's had a transmission change

The C in D5C12k is probably a 0 making it D5012K
D50= 4500
1= diesel
2= trans pto
K= 6x4 manual reverser
3G19R probably a B = July 19, 1973 day shift
390360 is consistent with a 73 model serial number

D7NN4024A on the axle housing indicates it is a 77 or later rear axle
Planetary rear axle with step back front axle indicates a 4600SU or 4610SU

If he could list the date codes for the engine, stamped on the right side of the block below the inj pump and the rear axle date code, stamped on the center housing flange where it bolts to the trans, this would help determine if they are correct for each other or if the tractor is a mutt.

Some of the utility models used the 6x4 trans but I don't know of any that used the swept back axle, but I'm not up on the utility models that well.

He posted a picture showing a D7NN4024A casting number on the differential case. D7 would be 1977, right?

D7 at the beginning means the casting was designed in 1977. That casting design could have been used for several years after that.

(quoted from post at 21:01:13 03/14/18) The 4500 and 4600 use same rearend. 4500 has extra brake disc on each side.

Well aware that they use the same style rearend, but a 4500 would not have had a D7NN rear axle housing.
