Re: Ford 2000 not starting

I dont know which year you have but you might want to keep your old valve. The newer valves are made a little sloppy, put another inline valve down line from your tank valve.

I dont know if you'll get this but you can pull any plug wire and unscrew a plug or use any plug you have lying around. Push the pulled plug wire onto the loose plug and hold it next to one of the sidecover bolts (or any gound) while turning over the engine with the throttle off. You should get a good blue spark.

Thanks for the information on determining if I have spark. I think I can skip this step now because the tractor cranks like a charm on the first turn of the key since I replaced the tank cut off valve. The filter for this valve was laying in the bottom of the tank, no telling how long. When I removed the valve I was curious if I would find trash blocking the valve and, sure enough, a bunch of flaky debris came out when I tapped it on a hard surface. Luckily (I think) the previous owner had installed an in-line filter in the fuel line from tank to fuel pump so, I'm hoping, that filter helped trap debris from reaching the pump. Being lazy and because the tractor cranks so easily now, I'm not gonna tear into the fuel pump unless I begin to have further fuel flow problems. I gotta say, it is fantastic to have a tractor that will crank when I need it to.
