Remote Vave Spool Removal

I have two x600 or 10 Series quick-drop remote valves that have the end of the spool broken off where the bolt for the handle goes through. Someone welded one back up, but it looks terrible so I'd like to try a better weld repair and hopefully fix the other too. I know the spools are not serviceable, but are they easily removable so they will be easier to weld?

Im not sure which valve you have but I have done two different types. I havent done the later model pancake style yet. There should be a cover on opposite end of spool that has a circlip or snapring. Inside the cover is a nut with a spring behind it that holds the spool in. The hardest part is getting new orings to slide back in there without cutting them. I have wrapped black tape (tightly) on orings and such to get them past the edge. If your old ones arent leaking you might be better just re-using them I have found the clear engine assembly lube is pretty slippery. Its so slippery that when i used it to put the umbrella seals in a DBGVCC Roosa Master pump that they went in by themselves when I was pushing on the driveshaft. I pulled it back out just to make sure they were in right. I also learned not to coat the whole seal until I had them on the pump shaft. A pic would help to know which valve you have.
