Help identifying tractor

So I just picked up a tractor said to be a ford 3400. Cleaned off the serial numbers and I believe it is actually a woods 4410. There is such limited info about this tractor I'm not certain that's what it is.

So far it's a Great running tractor. Shows 3700hrs on the working hr meter - tach needle is broken thogh.

It has:
Independent pto
8-2 trans
Diff lock

I'm not sure what size motor it has though. Motor number is 333 and says bsd beside it.

PLEASE educate me.

Going to try and upload images.

Model D4114C decodes as follows: D = 4000 series, 41 = industrial (an assumption as my 9/68 dated service manual lists "40" utility, and "50" industrial, it doesn't list "41"), 1 = diesel, 4 = independent 540 PTO, C = 8 spd . Unit 0K02B is final assembly Oct. 2, 1970. The "C" in the serial means assembled at Romeo Michigan plant. The engine is a later model BSD333 201 cu.in. replacement engine. We sold a lot of the engines as it was more for parts, but less for labor, than overhauling and the customer would get his machine back working in a couple days.

Model number D4114C:
D41 - 4410 (Specialty "woods" chassis model in the 4000 series)
1 - diesel engine
4 - independent 540 rpm PTO
C - 8 speed transmission

Unit number 0K02B means that it left the assembly line on October 2, 1970 (wow, I just realized that was my brother's 21st birthday).

The front axle on the 4410 is the same type as the 3400 and is unique to those two models in that time period, and the 3400 was much more common than the 4410, so the seller might have thought it was a 3400 because of that. The 3400 would not have independent PTO or the double reduction rear axle with the inboard wet brakes though.

That engine is a replacement. The ones that came installed on tractors from the factory did not have tags on the engine. A BSD333 is a 192 ci 3 cylinder engine (4.4 inch bore x 4.2 inch stroke) that was made from 1980-2000. The BSD333 is the same basic block design as the original engine, but the original engine in that tractor would have been a 201 ci (4.4 x 4.4). The slightly lower displacement means that it has 2 to 3 hp less than the original 201, but 42 or 43 hp vs 45 hp isn't that much of a drop. It should still be strong enough to do anything that it could originally, as most tasks that would require the full hp would cause it to lose traction before it was able to put the full hp to the ground anyway.

Thanks for all the info guys. So is this engine harder to get parts for? If I need parts for it what motor will I I be using to search? Or is this the standard 4000 motor and I have nothing to worry about as far as parts are concerned?

And while I'm on the topic of parts whenever I search for parts am I simply looking for items that would go on a 4000?

Lastly what is the value of this tractor? I picked it up for $4,500 which I felt like was a pretty good deal.

Thank you for being so helpful.

I'll disagree on one point - a BSD 333 is a 201. I have an '84-'85 Industrial Buyer's Guide that shows all the BSD's that were
available. BSD332 = 3 cyl. 3.2L = 192 c.i., BSD333 = 3 cyl, 3.3L = 201 cubic inches. The numbering system was first number =
cylinder count, next two numbers = displacement in liters. Other BSD's were the 329, 333H, 442, 444, 444T, 444H, 666, 666T, 666TI,
and one simply designated TW15 because that was the only model it was a direct replacement for.

Engine uses the same parts as the tractors that were current when the engine was made ...and most parts are the same or
interchangeable with older 201's. No harder to get parts. Just let the parts guy know it's a BSD. Same with the rest of the tractor
- just say you need parts for a 4410 woods tractor. You can also go to New Holland's parts site and look up the part numbers you
need... I do that, as my "local" dealer was IH, then Case-IH... they only picked up Ford through the New Holland merger, and don't
really know them.

Fordfarmer you seem to have a bit of info on these motors. Any idea how old it is based off the other numbers on It? Would love to know about when it was replaced

If you can find a date code on it, we can tell when it was made... and it would have been put into the tractor at some point after
that... but pinpointing when that was would be impossible without talking to the owner at the time or the dealership that did the
transplant... or seeing some paperwork from the job.

Engine serial and build date are almost always stamped on the RH (looking from flywheel end) pan rail. Build date is the same format as the tractor itself, number letter number letter. I have seen them stamped on the front flange but the exception rather than the rule.

Please excuse my ignorance but what exactly is meant by the term "pan rail"? Going to try and find the build date.

One other question for you Fordfarmer: how much hp should this 333 have? I searched the forums and came across a scan you put in a while back but for some reason I can't see the picture.

So I found the engine numbers at the oil pan. There are a few sets. This is what they are

*K576845* 5J19 or its 5119

839324xx - the xx are numbers I can't read.

Any ideas of age on this thing or build date?

5J119 means it was assembled on September 19 of some year that ended in a 5. According to the parts site, the BSD333 was made from 1981 through 2000, so it was either 1985 or 1995.

K576845 is the engine serial number, but they aren't well documented anywhere, so unless someone has more details on those we probably can't determine from that whether it's 1985 or 1995. Looks like they were pretty much identical across all of the production run, so it doesn't really matter when you're looking for parts.

I'm not sure what that last one is.
