How do you pros break in a rebuilt engine when you first fire it up? Should it be idled a little while until it warms up good then run it half speed for a little while before taking it to the field to run the snot out of it and load the engine good.? Do you have to do the loading all in one day or can you make it in intervals?

I let them run at 15-1800 rpm for at least a half hour, then put it to work.
I was always told to never idle a fresh rebuilt engine.

yep, cam break in.

If you watch any of the horsepower TV shows they start a new engine, rev it up and shut it off, had a lot of failures.
Now days you see some one from the builder, usually Elderbrocks daughter, there at first fire-up.

Prime it. Crank it. Then I would run it about 1k RPM until it warms up radiator cap off. When the thermostat opens you'll need to add coolant so have that handy. Add replace radiator cap. Run 1500 RPM for 30 minutes maybe an hour. Then I'd drive it around the yard fast slow fast slow fast slow for a while. How long it up to you and I would not work it real hard for at least the first few times I used it I'd just mow or something. Not pull a plow. I have rebuilt more gas motors than I can count and I have always been told and in turn told customers not to pull a load or rev over 4k until after the first oil change maybe the second.
