BSD 444 vs BSD450

Anybody out there really know their 80s & 90s Ford engines? Anybody know the difference between these engines? Obviously they have a displacement difference, but is the block the same? Can one engine drop in place of the other?

The 304 engine, at least by the late 90's (emissioned) was nominally labeled NH450... so although I don't know for certain... I'd think it probable that if it was sold as a crate engine in the BSD line, it was probably known as the BSD450. If it was turbo charged, it would be a 450T.

Well, if the others are right (and they very well could be), then a BSD 450 is the Genesis engine that came out in the 40 series. I was unaware that NH sold them in BSD format, although I guess it stands to reason.

The major differences that I'm aware of is that the block is 1/2" taller, and I'm pretty sure the crank is 8 bolt instead of 6. Those are two pretty big issues right there.

They're completely different. The 450 is the Genesis engine. Both engines were made is Basildon hence the BSD prefix.
