Ford 960 pinion bearing update

Finally got the new bearing from the dealer (second one, first was wrong bearing. This one is New Holland part # 86613257 on the box and a Bower bearing part # HM807046PW3 Something tells me that someone has put the wrong bearing in the wrong box. I know it isn't my dealers fault as they ordered it in for me and the box was taped shut. Just wondering if anyone knows if this is a correct cross ref. for the NH one. Keith

Used to be that no matter whose name was on the bearing box, it contained a Bower, Timken or Fafnir bearing.

While I don't know the Ford (NH) cross to Bower numbers, I would bet that if the Ford (NH) number is correct, so is the bower number.

If the new bearing box has not been opened and the CNH part number on the box matches the application, it is almost certainly the correct bearing.

I really can't understand how the bearing can be correct since the bearing is twice as wide as the race and the inside diameter that goes on the shaft is probably .010 smaller than the pinion shaft. It is not going to fit. + the fact that I have never seen a bearing that fit that is twice as wide as the race (only half if the bearing is riding in the race. At that rate the pinion shaft will be set forward to the point where the shaft will be just starting into the pilot bearing & it needs to be all the way in it for end support. I'm going to take it back tomorrow along with the shaft and the bearing housing & see what the parts man says.

Keith,If you have the old bearing there should be numbers on it to cross reference to the new one or if you have a Motion Industries business in a nearby town they can get you a matching bearing and race in a couple of days.

The FIAT site gives these specifications for the 86613257 bearing...

ROLLER BEARING,
50.8mm ID x 36.51mm Wide =

2" ID X 1.4374016" Wide

How does that compare with what's in the box?

I'm curious as to the PW3 suffix to the bearing part number.

Typically, this would mean a "special" ID and/or bearing width, yet the official site gives dimensions of the "standard' version of the bearing.

Maybe someone put a "special" version of the bearing in the box instead of the "standard" version.

This puts a different light on things. Maybe shoulda shared this right off the batt????

Now, you know what happens to a bearing when you take the fire wrench to it. Yep, right on the numbers that were hidden, isn't that the way it always is. Measured the old bearing inner race this afternoon right at 1 1/4" the new one measures 1 1/2" so it has to be the wrong bearing. The outer bearing cage is right at 1/18 and the new is over 1 1/4. I didn't do any fine measurements. I've never seen a bearing wrapped in a piece of plastic that is 2'long x 18" wide )kinda big for a bearing of that size so I still think someone has put this bearing in the wrong box and returned it to a dealer. Oh well, we'll find out tomorrow cause I'm taking the parts with me & see what they say. Thanks a bunch guys for all the comments I really do appreciate them. Keith

Sorry, I kinda over stated the width it is actually a little over a 1/4 " wider than the old one. See my thread above. Keith
