Some would recommend UTF (Universal Tractor Fluid) that meets or exceeds the M2C-134D spec in all. I like to use a good 80W-90 in gear drive transmissions and rear ends.

Some would recommend full synthetic, or gold... however most any TRACTOR rated hydraulic fluid will more than meet the spec for the ford 600. A ford rated m2c53a also will work fine and is closer to the rating of your tractor. Or the 80w90 oil is used by some as well.

FORD m2c134 rated oil came much much much later and is designed for heavier requirements and will work and "meets or exceeds" the original spec oil as well.. Or bump up to the syn tractor hydraulic oil and it will work as it "meets or exceeds" the original spec.

However there are old pumps out there and some times the thinner fluids can lower pressures due to pump wear or leak a bit more.

I use WW oil in the 5 gallon tub labeled 303 in my '63 2000, tranny and hyd. sumps, and '65 3000 tranny/hyd/diff sumps. 303 is the JD
spec I use for my 134a since it's more popular, shows up in the specs on the rear of the container if any spec shows up, and is oil of the
same vintage of equipment. My 2000 is your 600 with blue paint.
