I want to replace hydraulic filter and oil on ford 4000 1967 with select o speed.where is filter located?thanks

The filter for the transmission is behind a 4-bolt plate on the side of the trans. The filters (suction and return) for the hydraulic system
are both internal and require a 3-point lift cover removal and/or transmission-rear axle split to service.

For trans is 4 bolt cover on left side behind steering arm, drain plug in bottom, fill plug is square head on rite side.

I left out a little info in my last post. Both the tranny and the hydraulic system in the rear axle have two filters each. Both have a
suction screen before the pump, and both have a replaceable paper element. The paper filter for the tranny filters oil immediately after the
pump, and the paper filter in the rear axle filters return oil before it goes back to sump.

All that said, I'm still not sure which hydraulic system you're talking about. The tranny and rear axle have separate systems. Which one are
you referring to?

almost sure it is one hydraulic system.

I can assure you sir that the two systems are separate, UNLESS someone intentionally made them common by removing the seals between the
transmissions and rear axle. I find it hard to believe that it would even work like that, because the first steep hill would starve the
transmission pump and stop the tractor dead in its tracks.

Are you changing the hydraulic filter and fluid for the S-O-S transmission or the 3 point lift hydraulics? They are separate systems as Bern has said.

For the S-O-S transmission, the return filter is behind the plate on the left side as others have said and it is a replaceable spin-on type of filter. There is also a pickup screen that is accessed by another plate farther down on the left side, and that one is meant to be cleaned and re-used.

The sump for the 3 point hydraulics is the rear axle itself and there are two filters in that system as well, the pickup filter is also a screen that is meant to be cleaned and re-used, and the return filter is a paper cartridge type that is meant to be replaced.
