600 ford 3 point

Well my 3 point hitch on my 600 ford will go up but not down.it does not have any equipment hooked to the 3 point and the tractor has been setting for 3 years and just got it running.i changed all fluids and filters but the 3 point still will not go down.does it need equipment attached to it for it to go down?

No, just the weight of the arms should make it go
down. You may have a stuck relief valve, after sitting
that long.

Sitting in the up position for 3 years, it should have leaked down by now!? Look thru the hyd filler hole and see if control valve linkage is moving. If not , you move it with a big long screwdriver and if still not lowering, remove the plug on the accessory plate, while prepared for an oil bath. If still won't lower, then it is a mechanical bind, possibly 3 years of rust.

Ben,
There is no force to push those arms down. In cold weather, I can remember having to sit on or push down on them in order to make the arms go down.
Much can depend on the type of fluid you put in the center hydraulic section.

(quoted from post at 17:19:13 02/22/18) where is the relife valve
elief valve is normally the term applied to the over pressure relief & there are two in your tractor, neither of which will have any effect on lowering. If he is speaking of another valve, then that is another chapter.

(quoted from post at 19:48:22 02/22/18) Yes, I used the wrong term. What I should have said was unloading valve.
nloading valve isn't in the dump/lower circuit either, but with engine running, I can see the possibility that if stuck in lift position that it could provide sufficient flow to keep arms up while being too much flow for dump/lower circuit to handle. Still should lower with engine off.

(quoted from post at 19:59:12 02/22/18) please tell me the right position of the draft lever for operating 3 point equipment
epends on the implement attached. If a plow, for instance, and you want it to automatically adjust depth so as to maintain a constant draft/pulling load on the tractor, then put it in Draft mode (lever down). If something other than ground engaging, and you desire a set height, the lever up for Position Control mode.
