Is this normal?

Ran my 3000 gas for 20-30 minutes today, then shut it down & checked gas level w/a probe (I don't trust the gauge!). When I loosened the cap it popped of from pressure in the tank.
Should there be any pressure or do I need a new cap?
Thanks!

The gas cap should be vented. Yours is either a wrong (un-vented) cap or the vent is clogged.

Mine, I am fairly certain, is the original cap, and it has a rivet in the very center that fits loose in the hole that it's riveted through, and that is where it vents.

Usually, when the vent gets clogged the tank develops a vacuum and the engine starves for fuel. I'm not sure why yours had pressure built up, but in any case you should either unclog the vent in your cap or get a new vented cap.

I don't blame you for not trusting the gauge, mine isn't accurate.
I have two questions - One, has it done this before? Two - Has it
sat outside where ice may have plugged the vent in the cap?
If it is normally alright and it has sat out in the cold, maybe just
bringing the cap in where its warm for a night would cure it.

Royse, no to both!
Sean, mine is vented but I can barely blow hard enough to make it work! I can see the rivet & press it w/a pick, then blow thru easily.
Think I'll just get a new one & toss this one!
Thanks!

"Royse, no to both!"

Well darn. I was hoping for an easy, cheap solution.
They do happen once in a while. ;)
