Found crack in block

Need some advice folks. I was cleaning up the block on the 63 2000 4 cylinder, found this crack staring back at me. If you cant tell, its just outside the rear main j. Its about 2" long. My question= Given this tractors engine block is the primary support front-to-back, and crack location is near the mounting ears, fixable? There was some gunk accumulation below the crack but I figure it was likely sealing if anything. My fear is if left unrepaired or just covered with some sort of sealant, the crack will continue and id end up splitting the damn thing even with a drill stop. Im not new to the welding industry, grew up in fab. & metal shops, hell I got my CWI when I was 24. If it is best to weld repair, what sort of joint prep is preferred? I don't mean "u groove and stitch" I mean how deep? In my line of work all cracks are to be drill stopped; beveled half thickness; welded and back gouged to achieve full pen. Plus we hit it with mag particle after every bead to ensure no cracks are present before and after welding.

Thanks Kirk, I just might.
Anybody ever see a crack in this location? Or has anybody seen one repaired in this location?

Did you magnaflux it to ensure it is a crack and not a casting mold flaw? If it's real, I'd say it's from lateral stresses caused by vibration.....but lots of built up material there....but a
sharp corner and things could compound.
