841 hunting and hesitation update

Well I can sleep again. Thanks for all the help and all the past posts in the archives. After taking the carburetor a part many times and rebuilding the distributor and still having the hunting issues I changed and adjusted the compensation spring at the governor arm and that did it. Got it hooked up to my chipper and going to run the hell out of it . Big difference with the extra PTO HP compared to what i had on my NAA. Next will be fixing the brakes and rebuild the loader. control valve and cylinders leaking . Now for the next question about my three point lift . When i use it for the first time of the day I have to get the RPM up to 1500 to raise it then it works well the rest of the day. Also my 841 still has the muffler it came with and it is a lot louder than my NAA just wondering if this is because of the larger engine or is the muffler is shot.

Congratulations! I suppose that means that I have to offer you more for it now. I don't know that much about hydraulics, but I believe that it means the the pump is getting tired. Your muffler is not the original, it is the third one that has been on that tractor since new. There are two different horizontal mufflers for the 172, Years ago I was told that one is for gas and the other for diesel, the diesel being less baffled, so it would create less back pressure. I said, that's for me! when I was buying one for my gasoline powered puller. I then put a piece of pipe through it on the bench and pressed down on the pipe in a few different radial locations. This flattened down some of the internal tabs to reduce the restriction even more.

Let your hydraulic oil warm up some before trying the lift. Once warmed up dont rev it high but give it a quick throttle up and see if it lifts. I have one doing the same thing. Your unloading valve could be sticking. mine works fine as is. I may wait until the piston seals need replacing to fix unless it becomes aggravating.

I'm following this in case there is more discussion about the muffler issue. My recently acquired 871 is much quieter than my 641, which has had me wondering if the 641's muffler has rusted out inside.
