Finally taking 960 apart

Finally yesterday got around to trying to take the 960 RC that the rear end locked up on last summer. Book says to pull it apart right behind the transmission. Problem is it came about 2" then won't come any further apart. I'm wondering and can't find anything in this IT book (not worth the money I paid for it) if the pto selector should be un bolted or if something else is holding it. Now keep in mind that the rear wheels will not move. Should I remove the right side wheel, and axle trumpet to have a look inside> We have the front held up with my O H hoist and legs of angle iron so it can't fall. Any help will sure be appreciated. First your PTO lever should be in the disengaged position than the round cover should be taken off.

I think that it is unlikely that you will get it fixed without removing the top cover, so I would take that off.

I've got the top cover off I was wondering about
the pto unit & if anything could be keeping it from
coming apart except for the pinion being stick. The
pinion shaft is just barely out of the splined collar & I
can't see anything that is keeping it from seperating
other than the rear wheels won't move. Posting from my I phone, sorry. Keith
