Again thanks. Here are a few pictures showing the area around the starter, still no numbers

That's John Smith's website, and he has decided to retire it.

Plans are in the works to get it up and running elsewhere.

Until then, you can find an archived copy of it here.

Here are your pictures. That bracket, looks like stainless steel,
bolted on with two bolts, would be hiding the numbers.

They would be on horizontal flat spot behind the bracket,
between the bracket and the pipe.

Thanks Royse, that bracket is a mount for the exhaust pipe. Looks like a home made mount. as soon as I get home off goes the mount. The next beer is on me. What is the wed site mentioned in another post have tried a number of time keep getting a error screen. Thanks again.

This site does't let you post pictures until you have 10 or so posts. Posts the links to the pictures and someone here can embed them in the thread.

I have a 64 4000 that I couldnt read any numbers at all. I needle scaled the area and primed with red oxide primer. All model numbers and serial numbers showed up. It was easier to see at different times of the day and different ambient light. There is a point of no return but I think they can also be magnafluxed.
