Seeking assistance in ID my tractor.
ford, diesel, 4 speed has 310609 on the right lower block. Has a roosa master injector pump, and on the front of the hood a round decal (which is missing). has a bucket mounted which may be after market.

310609 is the casting number for a 172 engine made in 58-59
172 engine was used in the 801 series for those years as well as some industrial models.

Look on the flat spot behind the starter for any numbers, battery acid eats up the numbers on many of the diesel models but you may be able to find some.
The numbers your looking for are stamped into the clutch housing, not raised casting numbers.

About half the the serial number is gone on my 62 881D, but the model number that sets back under the battery box a little farther wasn't damaged.

Welcome to the forum wildfireranch.
Your model and serial number should be on a horizontal flat spot just aft
of and above the starter. There are two threaded holes at the end of it.
Diesel 4 cylinder makes it an x01, early x000 series or possibly
one of the industrials. Does it have an adjustable front axle?
With that engine number and trans, I would "guess" an 841.

John Smith's website - [b:6f49e899a0]here[/b:6f49e899a0] - should help a lot.

I agree, most likely an 841. It might be an 821 or 831 also, if it came from the factory minus the PTO and/or 3 point hydraulics, but those are more rare and may have had those features added later so would be effectively an 841 anyway.

Want to say thanks to all.
Looking at the left side close to where the rear brake goes into the hub, on the gear housing there is a raised (2n) nothing else.
would this help ID it

Looks like John's site is having a little trouble.
Once it's back up, the link should work fine.

You're looking too far aft for the numbers.
Put your left hand on the starter and your right hand on the steering
arm that comes down from the steering gear box, then look down.
The numbers should be between your arms. Here's what they look like.
They can be hard to find. Painted over, greased over, worn off by
battery acid from a bad battery, etc.
