sherman combination trans

How much oil goes in a Sherman combination trans? I have found a lot of info on it but cant seem to find oil capacity.

A little info

Its out of a 64 4000 4cyl.
its a 4th generation Sherman made by Ford
Its serial # is 78206. on Smith old tractor they say 75000 is highest serial # they seen so this could be one of the last ones made.

I am going through the tractor and as long as the it split I want go through thing and always replace trans shaft seals. not worth going on the cheap for the amount of work I'm doing

any help on oil capacity will be appreciated. Also anybody know a source for the shifter arm grommet.

You can, and probably should, pre-fill it after a rebuild, but I believe it gets lubricated over time by the oil from the main transmission sump. As long as there's enough oil in it to coat the gears for their first few revolutions after putting everything back together it should be good for the long haul as long as the oil in the transmission itself is kept up to proper level.

takes ~1 quart to fill the Sherman - just get a jug of your favored lubricant and while the input shaft is off put as much lubricant in as the case will hold

when you pull the input shaft to renew the seal, check the roller bearing for smooth operation and also check (and be careful not to lose) the clutch shaft needle bearing and thrust washer - - if you see any deterioration of any of these bearings you might want to consider rebuilding the unit as it will never be easier than now -

jimf,It holds about a quart or so pour it in before installation.Check all gears, shift forks, bearings and always replace the input shaft seal when you have one or a clutch out cheap insurance.Get the grommet from McMaster or I have also used a glad hand seal from a semi before with a little inside hole modification before, easy to find seal.Once the Sherman is installed it will fill it self as it scavenges oil from the main transmission when it is keeped full of gear oil.
Gromets

Thanks everyone for the response. As I said as long as I'm in this far its no time to go on the cheap. I used the tear down and inspection from the Smiths old tractor. All my gears looked really good as did the forks. No chips, pitting, scouring, rusts etc. Again thank for the response

Ford Service Bulletin indicates 2 pints of EP SAE 80 - Line item 6 (second from bottom) in attached.
