841 hesitating update

As i posted early my 841 was having throttle problems . It would die under load or die if i trotted up to fast. So I went through the distributor and
took it apart cleaned it and all new points rotor condenser, then got a new complete carb fit and went through that again . This time really going
through all the ports with a torch tip cleaner. Compression checked out ok. Fired it up and runs good under 900 rpm even under load. The
problem is between 900rpm and 1400 rpm it lopes and the governor keep moving back and forth . If i bring it up over 1400 it runs good . I think
it the governor . I disconnected the throttle at the carb and started the tractor and move the throttle with my hand it ran great at all engin speeds
no problem . So any one ever have this issue? Thinking of replacing the compensating springs at the governor arm and readjust or should I go
for a new governor? PS Showcrop not for sale yet.

Sounds like the way my 871 acted a couple of years ago when it lost the balance spring under the battery box. Is yours still there? Mine broke and only part of it was still on the linkage.

If I understand, tractor is hunting between 900-1400 RPM?

Remember, the governor works by CLOSING the throttle, not opening it; if your motor hunts, it's probably not the governor.
If it hunts under no load, it is most likely a fuel delivery problem. Does it smooth out when you partially close the choke? If so, that indicates a problem in the carburetor high speed circuit.

I have been through the carb a few times . When
the governor is not hooked up and I move the
throttle by hand there is no hunting at all . I bring the
engine up to 1200rpm leave it there no hunting
bring it down no hunting . Bring it up and down fast
both ways no hesitation coughing or hunting . I'm
going to replace the spring at the governor arm and
adjust the governor when I get in the springs and
see what happens wish I had a tractor nearby I
think my carburetor off and stick it on a good
running one and see what happens

Using the choke when it's hunting makes no difference

Patronize me.... At operating temperature, throttle up to surging speed and gradually apply the choke - All the way up to full choke but do it gradually. If it stops surging, Bob's your uncle!

Dollar Bill I tried the choke thing a few times. It doesn?t change a thing . The spring at the governor look like it is shot. When I compare it to my
NAA that runs fine. It runs good at PTO speed 1500 rpm so tomorrow I am going to hook up Mt chipper and run it for a few hours . The tractor
sat for a while and it had a lot of crud so I was told the governor might be the same way.going to run it for a while and see what happens . I
didn?t use the right term it hunting between 900 and 1400 RPM

Well it was a weak governor spring at the governor arm. Lots more to do on it but for now just run it . Thanks for all your help.

Well it was a weak governor spring at the governor arm.

Glad you sorted it out.

Which spring did you replace - Item 20 or 37?
