6000PTO break

Anyone ever try installing a external PTO brake on a 6000? I was thinking about a thin brake disc with a pad or shoe hand operated on the PTO shaft, with a lever almost like a engaging lever off a Oliver or Farmall. I like to rake with mine but have to put the 540/1000 lever in neutral to go down the road. Sure would be nice to have a brake. Al

I've never thought about an external one, but I've often wondered why they didn't put in an internal one. I don't think it would be that hard to be honest. Some sort of a spring applied pad that is released when oil pressure goes to the clutch.

Just like the IPTO on the non-SOS 4000, 5000, 7000, 4600, 5600, 7600, 7700, etc.

Some ideas:

My Ford LGT 165 lawn tractor uses a band type brake on the trans-axle that is mechanically applied. Other lawn tractors use a small disc on the rear axle with a mechanical caliper.

Also, there are disc brakes (shaft mounted) with mechanical caliper sold for go karts that my be adaptable for your application.

Please post pictures of your finished project.
