I got a 7710 that won't shift into 1
or 4, doesn't grind, or make noise,
or kick out just won't go into gear.
Any ideas, I hate to break it in half
for something simple,

If it's a cab model with the shifters located to the right the shifters have plastic bushings that wear.
Accessible from under the floor plate on the right side.
My 6610 has the 8x4 sychro trans, I've had to replace the bushings in both shifters.

What tranny? If the problem was 2-R in a crash box (non-syncro), I'd say almost without reservation that you have a broken shift fork.

Could be the bushings on the lever rails. That would depend on the age too. Later models I think were worse for that..
