Today I removed the Superior Loader on my 640. Now I can finish cleaning up the tractor and painting. Also got a big job cleaning up the loader so I can paint it too

Looks like a good tractor and worthy project.
Thanks for the photos. I always like the
photos. Interesting assemblage of blue and red.
What color will you paint it?
You do know that Blue paint will add a few hp
to them dont you :)

I would check axle pin, spindles and check for cracks in axle carrier. All can be worn due to loader. Remember these were built as Ag tractor and not really mean to carry a loader and were abused
by most farmers.
Good luck with the project, keep the photos coming.
On a side note got the item in the mail. Thanks

The red UD is removable parts I have painted already. All the blue will be gone when I'm done.

I like the idea of xtra HP painting it Blue

Will look over the axle real good Kirk

This tractor was bought used by PO in 1972. I do have the original bill of sale from the PO. Not actually sure when the loader was put on though

Glad those parts worked out for ya Kirk..Thanks again

The subject of your thread says 1955 640 and you call it a 640 in the first post, but that bill of sale claims it is a 641.

I believe that if it was a 1955 640 it would have the flat floorboards, not those in your picture that have the front of the floorboards angled up.

I only call it a 640 cause that's what it says on block

It does have the curved up floorboards on it. No Idea why the bill of sale said 641 on it. Maybe it is a 641...Dunno..anything else you see that might make it a 641??

They only used the flat floorboards for the first year (1955) of the hundred series, so if it's stamped 640 on the bell housing then it probably is a 640. That serial number, 45296, matches what's on the bill of sale, and for a 640 would be a 1955 serial number, so maybe they changed the floorboards partway through the year. I'm sure someone on here will know exactly when they changed. If it was a 641, that serial number would be a 1958 serial number.

It looks like a 640 to me. From earlier post hood/fenders are
600. Clutch pedal is 600. Left brake making crossover thru bell
housing is 600. The powersteering didn't come out until middle
of '57 but could have been retro fit on an earlier model by the
dealer, especially if a loader was order.

My son (deaddeer) and I own a "641" as well. Trans is stamped 640, but every other indication is it is a 641. The dash shroud has a cover plate. that is very well made, (possibly made by FORD?) covering a hole that was originally for the SOS. We figure sometime in the tractors life, the SOS took a dump, and transmission was replaced with the 4 speed.

Whoops, son is deadbuck, not deaddeer. Nothing like calling your kid by the wrong name. Snort-Snort!!

*Trans is stamped 640, but every other indication is it is a 641*

The cross over for the left brake would have ran under the hydraulic case for the 641. If the cross over for the left brake ran up thru the bellhousing than it's likely they change out the whole
back half of the tractor. This is a typical switch for the SOS. The rear half of the SOS would have been a fine spline connection and the 640 would have been a course spline connection coming out of
the trans. I believe the switch to fine spline wasn't make until around serial #50K or so on the 601 series.

That is really good info Kirk. On our tractor, the cross over for the left brake does run under the hydraulic case, confirming our thoughts that the majority of the tractor is a 641. Just wish there was some way to narrow down the model year a little more.
Just for kicks, I checked out our 740. and the brake runs thru the bell housing, like you said.
