Some time ago a member here claimed to have replaced Band 1 without a split. I have a NOS band on my table as I type; it is hard to imagine how this could be done. It would seem to involve bending the band open and bending it back closed again, maybe some grinding too. (I would never treat an innocent NOS band this way!) But who knows, maybe after all that it would run forever.
Many years ago I replaced a band in a Ford C4 automatic by dropping the pan and replacing the broken band with one that could be slipped around the drum from below. I drove the car till every other part failed or was failing, but the band always worked great.
Any stories of unconventional attempts to replace Band 1?
