Ford 600 hydraulic lift issues

Hello,

I have been lurking on the forum for a month or so since I purchased my new (to me) Ford 600 series 650. I appreciate the wealth of
knowledge on here and would love some advise.

I am trying to get the old girl in shape for the Spring. When I purchased I notice the lift wasn't going up all the way, but got the bush
hog off the ground with enough clearance. I changed all my fluids in the transmission, hydraulics and differential/rear end.

The hydraulic lift is just bothering me, as I know its not working as it should. It will lift more than half way with or without
attachment and can manually push arms up another few inches but will fall down when no implement attached to the highest point it can go
currently. So, I know it can lift higher. When it lifts is just really slow but not jerky. It will not hold impliement up over night, it
will slowly fall back down.

Where should I start looking first? The piston and o rings beneath the seat? The pump? The pump lines? After the fluid change I put air
compressor on HYD dipstick hole to pressurize the system and got the lift working faster. However, I saw a little oil leaking out of the
bell housing weep hole under tranny. I read that is there to keep oil out of clutch. Not sure if that is hydraulic oil or not, as using
UTF. It is not leaking anymore while running, just when I put the air in the dipstick opening. It seems if its the pump lines/tubes that I
will be a real pain as need to split the tractor? That maybe more that my expertise.

Should I event worry about it as getting bushhog and box blade off the ground?

I had the same problem with my 640 after I got it. I pulled the lift cover off and the pin half wore thru that runs on the cam in there. I pressed out the pin and turned it 180 degrees, should last another 50 years. See the pics

Turning the pin fixed my problem anyway

New cam follower pin is about 5
bucks from Dennis Carpenter. Or
pin, measurement jig ,and
instructions from Zane Sherman is
a good deal too. A lot depends on
that little pin and right
adjustment.

I am having a similar problem on my 651 lift. When I move the implement control handle all the way up, it only raises the 3-point about halfway. The lift is strong and will stay up overnight with weight on it. I discovered that if I raise the control handle all the way up and then put slight down pressure on the float control handle, the 3-point will raise the rest of the way up and stay there until I move the implement control handle down. I am guessing that my cam follower pin is also worn quite a bit. Haven't had time to pull the cover, so I have been using it like this for now. I'll get to it one day and fix it. One day!

That sometimes works also I can adjust it were it sets but your day is coming to get up close with the cover off, its best to get your ducks in a row and remove the lift cover..

Yes, I am about to go take it off, wish me luck hahaha. I have a new piston and O ring kit coming and should be here Tuesday.

So there are adjustments to make it raise higher or lower? Is it just turning a screw? Im about to pull the lid off so guess I will see more of what it all looks like and how it works shortly :).
Or how to tear it up....

If you do not have a service manual, get one before attempting any adjustments or you will just be making random changes. The adjustment procedures in the original Ford service manual call for special tools that you most likely do not have access to. The I&T aftermarket service manual has alternate procedures for making the adjustments without any of the specialized tools.

My pin is worn like your pic as well. Did you have to use a
machine press to remove the pin? I?m trying to do it without
removing everything from inside the lid if possible

Is there a trick to removing the cylinder so I can get this
piston out? I appear to have all the bolts out...Or is it easier
just to remove the pin that stops the piston so it slides out?

How do you get the cylinder removed from the lid? I seem to have all my bolts out but will not come off. Need it off to remove the piston to put the new one in. I don't have the service
manual yet but this shouldn't be too difficult.

The gasket or locator dowels are likely hanging you up. If you have all four bolts removed, try tapping lightly to break the bond.

Yes Britt, I did take the part off and pressed it out with my home built press, turned it 180 and pressed it back in.

you might be able to tap it out with a 1/4" drift punch but support it good

So I need to take the flat head screw out? What about the one
on the front of plate? That seemed like a valve with a washer
and ball in it. I can?t get this dang thing off. I?ve tapped I?ve put
a flat head between it and tried to pry it. Got the rubber Mallot
out too.

Take a pic of what yer talking about.

I have attached photos of what I am talking about, do these need to come out? What if I put a rod or screw driver in the 4 blot on holes for the cylinder and try to lightly hammer it loose
that way. Any thing in there that i can damage?

This is wearing me out hahaha.

No, the flat head screw is the safety relief valve.

It's been a long time since I've removed a hundred series cylinder but if memory serves, there are (4) fine thread bolts holding the cylinder to the lift cover. One of them may be beneath the accessory plate.

Only bolt still on the lid, is this one. Seems to have a different style bolt? Anyone know what this one is attached to. Maybe this is why I cant get this cylinder off?

I should have my manual Thursday, so Ill stop asking so many questions.
