Ford 5000 lift

Hi guys
It's been awhile since I been on here super busy.I got a question about my lift as most know the tractor was restored completely I cleaned everything very well and replaced the oring on the piston the lift works and does not leak down. The problem I am having is the lift does not move until the lift handle is almost to the top. Now if I pull the draft control lever up horizontal the lift will start lifting when I slide the lever up about 1/2 way. So I'm guessing I need to make an adjustment anybody know the adjustments I need to make. Thanks

You should have gone through all of the adjustments when you had had the lift cover off originally. If you don't have a service manual, get one. The I&T aftermarket service manual has alternate procedures for making the adjustments without using the special tools that the Ford service manual calls for.

Ya thanks it's the only thing that wasn't done.i have a it cd manual it only spoke about a special tool. That's why I let it go. I will see what I can find out and pull it off and adjust.

Haven't had to adjust the lift on my 5000 but after looking thru my shop manual it adjust similar to my 4000's lift.
Instead of the special tool one can check the adjustments using a good set of calipers.
I set the tail end of the calipers against the film housing and open the jaws until the end of the rack rail touches the control piston, then makes adjustment according to each procedure to get the correct .200 setting.
Make sure to position the draft control lever, lift arms and lift control lever in their proper positions before each adjustment, or you'll get to do it all over again.

Thanks dstroked your always a big help. I. Went back into the it manual last night and looked at the procedure and did see the .200 so I will be doing that pretty soon. The only part on the tractor that was not replaced or rebuild was the hydraulic pump because it looked new lol but it is making alot of noise. Going in to take care of these two things asap. Going to make a roll bar also do you or anyone else know a good place to get a top metal or fiberglass? Thanks guys
